​Commonly Misspelled Words that Your Spell Checker Won’t Catch!

So, you finished your work, performed a spell check and let out a sigh of relief. Your writing is free from errors, right? 

Unfortunately, there are many errors that can go undetected.

Here is a list of errors spell checkers will not catch:
  1. If for example you write the wrong homonym, like 'where' instead of 'wear'
  2. If you write 'hers' instead of 'his'
  3. Missing words – E.g., “I went to ( ) high school reunion last night.”
  4. Wrong dates, like “I was born in 2100…”
  5. Misspelled names, like “Hungarian psychologist Mihaly Csikszentmihalyi…”
  6. Repetitions like the same sentence twice in the same paragraph or page.
  7. Completely unrelated words like the list below:

boot when you mean boat and the opposite

form when you mean from and the opposite

fro when you mean for and the opposite

gramma when you mean grammar and the opposite

infernal and internal and the opposite

marital and martial and the opposite

pubic when you mean public and the opposite

researches when you mean researchers and the opposite

uninformed when you mean uniformed and the opposite
